Keynote Speaker

Dr. Joan A. Mullin, Professor in Rhetoric and Composition at the University of Texas at Austin, currently leads the WAC initiative in the College of Liberal Arts. Before joining UT, she initiated and directed the University of Toledo WAC program and the university’s writing center (1987-2004).

Dr. Mullin publishes in writing center, WAC, and various disciplinary journals. Formerly co-editor of The Writing Center Journal, she has also co-authored the award-winning Intersections: Theory-Practice in the Writing Center, ARTiculating: Teaching Writing in a Visual Culture. Most recently she co-edited two issues of the U.K. journal Art, Design & Communication in Higher Education with Margo Blythman and Susan Orr.

Past president of the International Writing Centers Association, Dr. Mullin researches writing centers, writing across the curriculum, visual literacy across international curricula, and intellectual property in art and design. She also serves as a WPA Consultant Evaluator.
